The Grange is a charming Victorian two-storey over basement house enjoying a fine setting among mature trees and gardens in this most scenic part of the Bride River Valley. The same square site of 7.5 acres was purchased in 1864 by Rev. Richard Longfield to build a glebe house for the parish of Mogeely and Templevalley. He remained here until 1898 when Rev. S.H. Dorman purchased the house. In 1951 the house passed to Frank Ryan, the renowned tenor who travelled extensively throughout Europe and the USA giving recitals, including performances in The Albert Hall, London and Carnegie Hall, New York.
The Grange retains many period features including fireplaces and sash windows. The accommodation is spacious and bright with high ceilings and large windows with the principal rooms having views over the gardens and demesne. The house extends to some 300 sq metres over three floors. It is well laid out and easily managed and includes three reception rooms, five bedrooms and five bathrooms. Approached by front and back drives, the property is ringed by mature trees and by a low wall and enjoys much privacy and seclusion. Immediately adjoining the eastern side of the house, the yard comprises traditional stone outbuildings including the boiler house. There is an old grass tennis court adjacent to the drive.
The property is located in Curraglass village in Co. Cork, close to the county boundary and a short distance from the town of Tallow, situated in Co. Waterford. The Bride Valley is noted as an unspoilt and tranquil area of rolling farmland and woods where the river winds its way to meet the Blackwater at Strancally. There is excellent access to Cork City and International Airport as well as the capital itself via the M8 Cork to Dublin motorway.
