John Hogan’s Iron Excellence
Killala Business Pk, Killala, Co. Mayo
My career in hand forged ironwork started in 1998 at the age of 19. I was a student for 2 years at the Irish school of Blacksmithing. I trained under Elmer Roush (Master blacksmith USA), Henry Profret (Blacksmith UK) and Paul Devlin (Blacksmith Ireland).
Now in operation for over 10 years I have accumulated a large portfolio of work. I have been creating bespoke pieces from hand forged traditional gates and bespoke metal staircases, to garden sculptures and award trophies. A large proportion of my work is ironwork restoration, restoring some of the rich heritage of ironwork we have in this country. Over the last 10 years I have restored a beautiful Turner Conservatory, cast iron spiral staircases as well as many wrought iron gates and railings.
As well as the ironwork restoration and the functional ironwork I also do a lot of artistic ironwork. This includes large scale public sculptures, garden sculptures as well as smaller wall sculptures. My work has been commissioned all over the country and some pieces have made it as far as the US and Australia. I work in a number of different metals including mild steel, stainless steel, wrought iron, copper and bronze i have worked with interior designers, garden designers, architects, conservation officers and some of the biggest building companies in the country.
