Website Focuses on Period Properties

If modern homes leave you cold and you dream of restoring a period property to former glory, then check out a new website designed with just that in mind. FormerGlory.ie is the brainchild of Chris Deakin, an Athenry-based property expert, who has set up Ireland's first property restoration database.

The website offers not only a list of properties ripe for restoration, but also examples of complete restorations, advice and information on how to refurbish your period property and a list of specialist suppliers and craftsmen who can assist you in your project.

"Former Glory is a new website for people interested in the restoration and renovation of old and interesting buildings", said Chris.

"The site has listings of old and interesting buildings for sale in Ireland (both derelict and restored), including castles, churches, Georgian houses, schoolhouses, former railway stations, barns, farmhouses, etc., a page for suppliers & craftsmen with an interest in this area, an advice and information page with relevant articles and links, and a featured projects page which will follow the progress of selected renovation jobs."

The properties featured are divided into two sections, with residences under E200,000 and those over E200,000. They come from every corner of the Republic, including Clare, Roscommon, Galway, Cork, Leitrim, Mayo and even Achill Island.

You can buy everything from a Medieval Castle in Galway to a former railway station in Roscommon to a church in Tipperary. A number of auctioneers throughout the country are already partners with FormerGlory.ie and it is anticipated others will follow as the site grows in popularity.
