Built in 1727, Ghan House is a 4* AA rated, fully restored, family run Georgian House. It is one of the oldest private houses of its type in Ireland, a tree length from medieval Carlingford with 3 acres of walled mature gardens and 8 acres of horse fields. All of Carlingford’s ancient buildings dating as far back at 1210; from King John’s Castle, the Dominican Friary, the Mint and Taaffe’s Castle are within a 2 minute walk from the front door. The Tholsel, Medieval Carlingford’s old town gate, is just 30 metres from the walls.

The house is in a wonderful location just one hour from both Dublin and Belfast and two of Ireland’s three World Heritage sites are within easy driving distance – just 45 minutes to Newgrange and a 120 minute drive to the stunning Giant’s Causeway. In addition the Titanic museum in Belfast and the Dublin Convention Centre are both just a one hour drive from the gates.

All* eleven bedrooms have roll top bath and separate power shower en-suite (*one ground floor bedroom has easy accessible ‘wet room’ shower).

The restaurant at Ghan House has 2 AA Rosettes and with wonderful views of the gardens and the Mourne Mountains. There are three private dining rooms available for exclusive use for special family occasions. The restaurant is open most evenings and booking is recommended.

Would definitely recommend staying at Ghan House in Carlingford. Made to feel very welcome by Paul, beautiful place and the food is excellent. We would stay again.

Our first visit to Ghan House and we will certainly be back. So different to the usual hotel experience, this is a real Georgian house experience. Wonderful staff and amazing food. Everything you could want for a break that is that little bit special.

Absolutely beautiful from start to finish. Beautiful well maintained period house, rooms immaculate and lots of lovely attention to small details. Felt totally relaxed and welcomed from moment we arrived. Food in restaurant was of really high quality and served beautifully in a really unique setting. Close to all amenities of the town but still so tranquil. Would go back in a heartbeat.
