History

Built in 1938/9, Mousehall was created using stone and windows from one of the grandest houses in the North West – Glengollan, once owned by the Norman family. After their only son was lost in the Great War, Glengollan was sold to the state and eventually dismantled (1937). The materials found new life in Mousehall, giving this house a unique character and history all its own. Many of Glengollan’s original features are still visible today, adding a sense of heritage and elegance to the home.

This home is now in the estate of Caroline Dickson, one of the leading female architects in the North West. Caroline had a deep love for design and history. She set up her own architectural practice in Derry in 1971 and worked on a wide range of projects over her long career. She had a particular passion for conserving historic buildings and served as diocesan architect for Derry and Raphoe for more than 40 years. Caroline also worked on local heritage sites like Fahan Old Church and was a familiar and respected figure in both the architectural and sailing communities. She even served as commodore of the Lough Swilly Yacht Club.
